Past Volunteering/Fundraising Initiatives
*Some shelters we have partnered up with to organize our community volunteering events have asked for pictures of their kids at the events to not be shared externally, so we've changed or blurred pictures to hide the faces of the children upon request. Please do not distribute any photos from the website in order to respect the security of the children we support.
Heartford House Child Advocacy Center Learning Event
08/12/24-08/14/24
Working with 75+ children of domestic abuse, we were so excited for all the volunteers who came to our community event in hopes of inspiring an interest in learning amongst these underserved children. Most of the kids had polarizing interests, but they all made sure to demonstrate a concerted effort to participate in all the different activities they had access to, and we are so happy to also have offered some of the willing families some scholarship funds to further support the educational involvement of their kids later in life.
Group Homes For Children Community Event
07/23/24-07/25/24
We are so happy to have been able to work with Group Homes and deliver our PREP Kits for these children in need. We were able to read a couple of our books and play some fun STEM competitions, working with 180+ children showing an extreme enthusiasm for their learning!
PREP Kits Assembly Event
07/13/24-07/17/24
One of the main issues children of lower-socioeconomic status deal with when it comes to education is the lack of access to proper school supplies and enrichment opportunities. Our PREP KITS include backpacks, notebooks, binders, headphones, folders, calculators, stationery, etc. They also provide memberships to online learning organizations along with scholarship funds for higher education.
STEMstars Cookie Fundraiser
07/03/24-07/03/24
We hosted a bake sale selling cookies and other treats in efforts to garner donations from supportive families and friends from different neighborhoods in Frisco, Texas. We gave all our visitors treats in hopes of receiving whatever donations they wanted to contribute, and we raised over $2,000! Thank you to everyone who purchased our treats and those who volunteered! All of the funds go to creating PREP KITS for our children as school starts again, and they will need access to back-to-school supplies and enrichment programs!
Hands of Hope Community Event
06/17/24-06/20/24
We are so happy to have worked with over 100 neurodivergent underserved children at our Hand of Hope Event! Thank you to all of our volunteers who donated and came to provide extra support with our kids. We saw so much interest and enthusiasm, and we were able to deliver ~100 PREP Kits to all of our volunteers who assembled these packages!
Frisco Family Services Community Event
06/03/24-06/06/24
We partnered up with the Frisco Family Services for our event involving working with adolescents (ages 6-12) reading our children's books and spending time outdoors learning about nature, processes like photosynthesis, and topics involving pollution. Many of the kids enjoyed the field trips learning more about how the world works around them even if they couldn’t completely understand, but they were very passionate about digging deeper into the environment. We hope to have inspired an interest in learning about the environment among these kids in working to support the world around us! Thank you to all the volunteers as well!
City Council Advocacy
05/12/24-05/12/24
We were recently invited to speak at a city council meeting regarding the issue of a lack of proper funding being allocated to the mental health needs of underprivileged children. We mainly discussed plans to increase the number of licensed professionals in these areas for organizations that support these children. While speaking about our issue, we also received the Mayoral Proclamation that can be found on the "Recognition" page. Thank you to our volunteers across a variety of cities who spoke up at their own respective meetings, and thank you to everyone who advocated for the cause!
The Samaritan Inn Community Event
05/06/24-05/09/24
We visited the Samaritan Inn homeless shelter where we worked with over 180+ children over the course of 5 days working with a variety of chemistry experiments (different states of water, chemical reactions) as well as working with anatomy dolls in learning more about the human body and diseases. The kids were super enthusiastic about learning, and many mentioned their dreams involving stepping into a career in medicine or science. We are so happy to have worked with the kids who were so passionate about their learning, and we hope to continue working with the Samaritan Inn which is constantly recruiting volunteers to work with their kids.
Hope Doors New Beginning Shelter Community Event
03/19/24-03/21/24
While visiting this domestic abuse home, we had the opportunity to work with some of the volunteer coordinators to organize an event in which we we launched a mock science fair, in addition to providing our kids with several activities and different Phet Interactive Simulations. Most of our work concerned chemistry, physics, and biological interactive simulations with 80+ kids who were able to work in groups. After asking them how much they learned from these lessons, they demonstrated a clear interest in learning and retention of information. Many of them demonstrated a proficiency on the topics and met most of the necessary standards which further showed us that stimulating a strong interest in STEM education was absolutely necessary to cater to the different educational interests of these kids.
Chipotle Social
03/12/24-03/12/24
We hosted a Chipotle social with a few team members and other visitors who came to purchase some bowls and burritos to support our cause of promoting STEM education among underserved children, and were able to raise almost $200, so thank you to everyone who not only came to our social but also purchased food throughout the day!
Capitol Briefing/Testifying
02/18/24-02/21/24
Beyond just supporting younger children with their educational needs, we also partner up with local committees to advocate the State Legislature in increasing public education funds/scholarship resources allocated specifically for underserved children. We were recently invited to the Capitol to present our work and advocate for more focus in terms of free mental health support as well for these children who have suffered intense trauma, which was emphasized in this recent 88th Legislative Session. We were able to testify for HB 2209, HB 1590, and Senate Bill 26, all effectively passed.
Hope Restored Missions Community Event
02/11/24-02/15/24
We organized an outdoor booth at Hope Restored Missions, a non-profit that is dedicated to specifically supporting victims of domestic abuse, and at our booth, we had kids rotate and come in whilst we worked through different maker spaces focused on astronomy, mathematics, biology, and technology in a few different sessions. We tried activities we were not normally used to with building solar catapults, egg-drop challenges, and Lego engineering projects. We were able to work with 150+ kids over the course of the day, and they were extremely dedicated and respectful of one another!
Journey To Dream Foundation Community Event
01/07/24-01/07/24
We had the unique opportunity to work with teenagers, different from the normal age group we are used to, and with these older kids, rather than specifically focusing on children’s books to promote STEM based education, we gave a few presentations on high school extracurriculars, part-time jobs, SAT/ACT testing, college apps, and scholarships, in order to provide these kids with the basic resources they would need to further continue their learning in college but in an affordable way based on their circumstances. We were able to host a Q/A session and work with 20+ teenagers on this very crucial topic, and we hope to offer online tutoring services to these children as well.
City House Christmas Celebration
12/17/23-12/20/23
Since this volunteering event was around Christmas time, we decided to host a Christmas celebration with kids we worked with but also remain true to our purpose. We read a Christmas children’s story, and afterwards, we played fun holiday board games and did some online puzzles with the kids, whilst fostering competition among the children. We also enjoyed a few delicacies and treats, and we are so happy that we got to celebrate the holiday season while stimulating an interest in STEM education among 100+ kids.
Mosaic Family Services Community Event
10/03/23-10/05/23
At Mosaic Family Services, we had the opportunity to travel to different community homes where foster families and group homes were supporting their foster kids while the children were still trying to find more stable homes. We worked very personally with around 200+ kids ages 5-9, and we largely focused on using technology to work through online simulations because we noticed how this was a resource that was largely lacking in these homes.
Little Marvels Home Community Event
09/07/23-09/11/23
We had another opportunity to travel to a rural county in North Texas located in Aubrey, Texas, where we volunteered for a short while but still could work with 150+ children. We worked through workshops with the kids that were focused on topics such as economics and engineering, followed up by working with money and a few different coding exercises. Most of the kids had polarizing interests, but they all made sure to demonstrate a concerted effort to participate in all the different activities they had access to, and we are so happy to also have offered some of the willing families some scholarship funds to further support the educational involvement of their kids later in life.
Andy's Frozen Custard Fundraiser
08/01/23-08/01/23
We had a great number of people show up to purchase an Andy's treat to support our cause with those funds. We generated about $100 throughout the day and this money specifically was able to support the educational funds for children we have been able to work with at Dallas Life Homeless Shelter. So many families were happy, but we could not have done so without our supporters and sponsor.
Giving Grace Denton Community Event
07/18/23-07/22/23
After volunteering at Giving Grace Denton, our hearts are truly filled from all the kind words of the kids and volunteer coordinators we worked with. At this domestic abuse shelter, we were able to work with kids ages ranging from 5-12 and though they were young, their experiences and strength inspired our whole team. The 350+ children not only demonstrated a strong interest in learning but also wanted to continue working on many of the activities and worksheets on their own time, and we definitely want to come back in the future with a different set of activities and in order to help them further stay interested in learning.
Amazing Children's Home Community Event
05/06/23-05/10/23
We traveled to Amazing Children's Home working on some coding related activities through the use of Code-Bots, online simulations, and anatomy dolls, and though it took some time to get the children to understand our objectives, they demonstrated a great deal of resilience to learn the tools and a determination to increase their own knowledge. There was a natural curiosity that we got to stimulate from all the questions being asked to learn more, and we are so glad to have worked with 100+ kids.
Children's Garden Montessori Academy Community Event
04/03/23-04/09/23
We are so happy to have visited this montessori that promotes a huge sense of environmentalism and nature. We decided to create a maker space focused on botany and zoology, and we worked with these children on a science experiment that teaches about the process of photosynthesis in plants, so we hope to have sparked an interest in biological sciences with these kids. We worked with almost 200 kids over the course of seven days which allowed us to better interact with the kids one-on-one and understand their specific learning needs. This event was a huge success! Thank you for your support!
Richwoods Academy Community Event
03/18/23-03/22/23
We had the opportunity to work with 300+ kids where we read our children’s books pertaining to technology and biology, and we worked on several STEM worksheets, Rubric’s cube solving, and showed them the human anatomy dolls. The kids showed a great enthusiasm for learning, we were super happy for everyone who came to support, and we can’t wait to continue volunteering here in the future!
Dallas Life Homeless Shelter Community Event
02/13/23-02/18/23
Our first event was a huge success! We launched our first maker space and organized activities to Dallas Life Homeless Shelter! We had the chance to work with 400+ homeless kids, and then we played board games and did puzzles to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills among these children. The kids were very patient and amazing at listening, and we are so grateful to have had the chance to work with them. Many of the children showed a keen interest in becoming surgeons, authors, and scientists, so we hope they continue their education in pursuit of these specific goals.
